Dr. Jason Thoms - Bio
Dr. Jason Thoms is the Director of Choral Activities at Concordia College - NY in Bronxville,NY. At Concordia, Jason conducts the renowned Concordia Tour Choir and the Concordia Festival Choir. In May
2009 Dr. Thoms will have his Carnegie Hall debut as conductor when the Tour Choir sings in the Weill Recital Hall upon returning from
their tour of the Southeast US.
Dr. Thoms is a graduate of St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota and Michigan State University inEast Lansing, Michigan. He has studied conducting with Anton Armstrong, Robert Scholz, Charles Smith, David Rayl, Jonathan Reed
and Simon Carrington. He has conducted choirs in concerts in 25 different states across the US and is a frequent clinician and
adjudicator for school, church and community organizations. Beginning in July 2009, he will hold a position on the board of
the NYACDA as the Repertoire and Standards Chair in Music and Worship.
Dr. Thoms is also a published composer with GIA Music,
editor of early music, published educator and a professional bass-baritone. This spring he has performed as bass soloist
in the Mozart Great Mass in C, Haydn Creation, and as Ceprano in Rigoletto. This past February he created the role of John Wilkes
Booth in the world-premier opera The Moustache in Annapolis, Maryland, and in April 2008 he had his Carnegie Hall debut as soloist
in Faure’s Requiem with Manhattan Concert Productions.
In 2009 Dr. Thoms will create the role of John Wilkes Booth in
the world premier of The Moustache in Annapolis, Maryland, and sing the roles of Ceprano in Rigoletto and Leporello in Don Giovanni. He will also be bass soloist in Mozart’s Grand Mass in C, Haydn’s Creation, and the Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle. Other
recent roles include Socrates in the premier of Socrates, Marullo and Ceprano in Rigoletto, Pandolph in Cendrillon, Masetto inDon Giovanni, Benoit and Alcindoro in La Boheme and Peter in Hansel and Gretel.
