Bio

Jonas Thoms is Consortium Instructor of horn at the University of Evansville and principal horn of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra. He is also a member of two resident University of Evansville faculty ensembles: the Harlaxton Woodwind Quintet and the Shepard Brass Quintet.

Thoms has previously held positions in the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra and the Glens Falls (NY) Symphony Orchestra. He has performed with the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestra, Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, Louisville Orchestra, Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, South Bend Symphony Orchestra, Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, Toledo Symphony Orchestra, and as substitute Principal Horn with the Albany Symphony Orchestra. His teachers include W. Peter Kurau, Randy Gardner, Elizabeth Freimuth, and Kristy Morrell.

Mr. Thoms founded and directs the Evansville Horn Choir. Prior to coming to Evansville, he served as horn instructor at the University of Cincinnati-CCM Preparatory Department and graduate assistant to horn professor Randy Gardner.

Thoms received his Bachelor of Music in horn performance from the Eastman School of Music and his Master of Music in horn performance from the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music (CCM). He is a member of the International Horn Society. Mr Thoms performs on a horn made by Darin Sorley of Indianapolis.
